At Be A Rosie, kindness knows no bounds, and that includes the ocean and all the life within it. Our Ocean Kindness Initiative is inspired by Rosie’s lifelong love of the sea. In 2023, Rosie visited Fiji and was completely in her element, snorkeling through crystal-clear water with pure joy on her face. When our t-shirt fundraiser exceeded expectations, we donated $500 to Ian of Fiji Surf Co, an ocean conservationist who builds artificial reefs from coral-infused cinder blocks that wild coral naturally attaches to. Moved by Rosie’s story, Ian designed a heart-shaped reef in her honor, and in October 2026 he installed it on the ocean floor in the place she loved, where it will grow new coral and shelter fish for years to come. Closer to home, Be A Rosie teamed up with ALL4 (formerly VCS Environmental), a team Rosie considered family, to clean up Doheny State Beach. At her last VCS Christmas party in 2024, Rosie won the costume contest with a surfboard she painted in a festive VCS theme, and after clearing trash from the shoreline, the ALL4 team gathered with that same surfboard. From the reefs of Fiji to the beaches of Southern California, Rosie’s heart lives on, reminding us that kindness, like coral, grows when given the right conditions.
